Stop, Sit, Go

I’ve learned some things about myself in the last few years.

Being a grown up is tough! The works is hard. Decisions are not always easy to make. Rough days are often followed by long nights. Hard moments and conversations are only slightly easier than the unbelievable circumstances that preceded them. And sometimes the answers that you need seem to be incredibly far away.

So, when these times come – too often when you least expect them, I’ve had to learn to cope, deal, and manage. In those moments I’ve learned to Stop, Sit and Go.

Yes, these problems, issues, opportunities, or decisions have to be faced. But not before I stop and sit. Hit the pause button. Set the dream to the side for a while and look for an escape hatch. Reset and recalibrate.

• Go for dinner
• Get on a plane
• Take a day off
• Get a drink
• Party like a rock star
• Work out
• Meditate
• Sit in a quiet room
• Binge Netflix, Hulu or Paramount
• Take a long drive
• Shut off the cell phone, computer and TV
• Go for a walk or run
• Play a round of golf
• Head to the movies
• Find a service project and go help somebody
• And by all means, pray.

One, the other, or all of the above!

Whatever you do, find a way to stop and sit. Find a way to clear your head, to get your life together, to be sure that your approach is rationale and reasonable. Reset and recalibrate before you… Go!
